Talk Shoppe has been preparing for the 2020 election since the beginning of the year, both for our employees and for our clients. As a small business and an insights provider, we see voting as part of our civic duty and understand how the political climate can impact research participants during this time.
This year and moving forward, Talk Shoppe has made election day an official paid company holiday. Additionally, we have taken election day into account as we recruit and field our studies, allowing additional time around these days.
“Voting is such a fundamental and important right, and we want to make sure we not only remove barriers to voting, but also encourage our employees to help others in their lives vote” says Ruth Behr, our Managing Partner at Talk Shoppe.
This year Talk Shoppe is encouraging all employees to vote early, vote by mail or use their election holiday to perform civic duties in any capacity. “One employee is investigating being a poll worker on election day to contribute to a smooth and fair election process. Our team was in an all-day meeting on election day in 2016, and it was nearly impossible to get any work done as we all watched the results rolling in. I'd rather see employees actively engaged in the election results vs. working with distractions.”
Ultimately, Talk Shoppe hopes that by doing our part in making voting easier for employees, it inspires other small businesses to do the same. As Ruth put it, “I'm a huge fan of exercising our right to voice our opinions. Voting is just one way we can show up and make our voice heard, but there are so many ways to get involved in the process. As a business owner, I feel obligated to actively encourage education and involvement in the process so people can feel empowered in exercising their right to vote. I hope other business owners will consider doing the same.”
